Summary

The Church Music Network website offers a Certificate in Church Music which is run from the Diocese of Salisbury in the UK. The course of study is available on the internet as a distance learning course. The certificate has been designed to provide a flexible and accessible pathway of study for anyone interested in how music is made in worship. The certificate is an ecumenical entry-level qualification.

There are no requirements to register onto the course, only an interest in the synthesis between music and worship.

Objectives

The certificate began life in 2003 as a study course for groups meeting in the Diocese of Salisbury. It is now available via the internet to anyone who wants an approachable distance learning course that deals with how music and musicians ‘synthesise’ with the liturgy of the church. The course content crosses denominational boundaries yet focuses on Anglican worship and the Church of England Lectionary.

Added value

The certificate has been designed to provide an informal pathway of study for anyone interested in how music is used in worship.

Information is available about the Certificate and the course modules which are available to download free of charge. The six course modules and resources are free. After the six modules have been worked through to complete the certificate. The ten reminaing modules can be accessed if futher study is desired.
